Funded by the UK Government, the Cyber Security Early Stage Accelerator Programme will be run in partnership by Cyber London and the Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT).
The programme, also being referred to as ‘Cyber Safe’, has been set up to support UK start-up companies operating in the cyber security sector.
£250,000 has been set aside for Cyber Safe, which forms part of the Government’s wider strategy to promote the UK cyber security industry, which has grown rapidly in recent years and is now worth £17.6 billion.
Overall the aims of the programme are to:
- increase the rate of new cyber security start-up development in the UK;
- help entrepreneurs develop, test and validate the commercial viability of their ideas and transform them into businesses;
- help identify new business ideas from the UK’s leading cyber security knowledge base; and
- provide a space for collaboration with the early stage start-ups as they develop.
Businesses offering cyber security solutions will be able to obtain help, advice and support through the programme to develop their products and services, and bring them to market.
Ideas that may currently struggle to gain investment funding because they are at an early stage and not yet fully developed, will qualify for assistance.
Speaking at the joint UK / US Global Cyber Security Innovation Summit at the British Museum London, John Whittingdale, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, said:

As technologies continue to evolve there will be an increased demand for secure products and services, and this new programme will ensure the best ideas from our brightest minds can help keep the UK safe in cyberspace.”
Stephen Wray, Commercial Director of CSIT, which will co-run the programme, said:

Kirsten Connell of Cyber London, which will co-run the programme, added:

The programme will open to applications from March 2016.
