Regular readers of this blog will know that I have a Social Media Management company and that we have just launched a Pinterest connection to allow our users to post, schedule post, research and analyse Pinterest, in addition to the Twitter, Facebook and Linked In services we already had. In our beta testing, we were amazed at how many businesses showed no interest in Social Media platforms outside of the Facebook and Twitter… Sure, you know your company should be on Facebook and Twitter and maybe LinkedIn to find employees. Pinterest is a relative newcomer to the Social Media scene and the early adopters of this platform tended to be females using the platform for aspirational purposes. But whilst this demographic remain a high presence on the platform, businesses are slowly realising that Pinterest is THE platform on which Brands can deliver visual stories, so if you are not in Pinterest – here are some facts to consider….
- Pinterest pins are worth more than Facebook likes. Consumers referred by Pinterest are 10% more likely to actually purchase than those referred by Facebook; Pinterest grabs around 41% of ecommerce traffic compared to other social media sites.
- The number of Pinners doubled in the past 18 months.
- International users have doubled in the last year and make up about 45 percent of the total.

- There are more than 30 million education boards created by teachers and parents helping kids learn in a more creative way.

- Pinners love to spend! Shopify users referred by Pinterest, for example, spend an average of £80 compared to Facebook referral of £40.
- Pinterest drives consumer purchasing behaviour; Pinterest is product review, shopping catalogue, tester, and advice column all in one. About25% of consumers reported buying a product or service after discovering it on Pinterest.
- Pins aren’t seen as ads…even when they are….. Pinterest users are smart and shun any blatant advertising. Retailers acknowledge this and adapted to the artsy look of the platform, doing away with traditional advertising and just hinged on the viral ability of the photos.
